As a mini-Christmas present to myself, I just purchased a retail blaster of 2008 Upper Deck Football from Walmart. In addition I stopped by the hobby shop and bought 4 more hobby packs of Upper Deck. Hopefully, I can move a little bit closer to completing this set. Here’s how I’m looking so far:
Rookies (cards 201-300): I was able to add 201, 224, 237,and 282. That improves my rookie completion percentage to 83%. Just 17 more rookie cards to go.
Needs: 204, 211, 213, 222, 226, 239, 249, 253, 258, 261, 264, 269, 271, 274, 276, 295, and 298.
Duplicates (available for trade): 203(x2), 205(x2), 207, 210, 217(x2), 218(x2), 219, 221(x2), 223, 229(x2), 230(x2), 232(x2), 234, 235, 236, 240(x2), 241(x2), 244(x2), 245(x3), 246, 251(x2), 252(x2), 256(x2), 257, 259, 266, 267(x2), 268(x2), 270(x2), 273(x2), 277(x2), 279(x2), 281(x2), 285, 286, 288(x2), 290(x2), 291(x2), 292(x2), 293, 294, and 297.
Short Print Rookies (cards 301-325): 32% complete. I pulled cards 319 and 325, both came from the hobby packs, not the retail blaster. 8 short prints down, 17 more to go.
Needs: 302-306, 308-311, 314, 316-318, and 321-324.
With the 200 base cards, that brings my overall completion rate to 89.5%. Hopefully, I might be able to snag some via trade. I may have to utilize eBay in order to get some of the short prints.
Breaking open more packs also meant more inserts. All of the inserts came courtesy of the Walmart retail blaster. For those of you interested, here are the inserts I pulled. All of the insert cards (except for the Tomlinson cards) are available for trade.
I added two for my personal collection – both Ladainian Tomlinsons, card SQ19. The only difference is one is the “Blue” Starquest card and the other is “Red”. I also pulled the following Starquest cards – Ben Roethlisberger SQ4, Chris Long SQ7 (Green), DeSean Jackson SQ9 (Blue), Glenn Dorsey SQ15 (Blue), Shawn Crable SQ16, Joseph Addai SQ 17, Matt Hasselbeck SQ21, and Osi Umenyiora SQ23.
I pulled one Masterpieces Preview insert and it sure is a beauty. Card MPP2 featuring Dwight Clark and “The Catch”. Simply an amazing piece of artwork.
College To Pros:
I pulled two, the Steve Slaton and the Jerome Simpson insert.
Finally, each retail blaster promises one rookie relic card per box. I think I was pretty lucky with this blaster. I happened to pull this year’s hottest rookie, quarterback Matt Ryan from the Falcons. Not bad, eh? In fact, I’ve had some decent luck with the Rookie Jerseys, having already pulled DeSean Jackson, Jonathan Stewart, and a numbered Matt Forte (although those came from hobby boxes/packs, not retail blasters).
Not bad for a retail break, especially since I was able to add the two Tomlinson cards. Getting the Matt Ryan jersey card was a nice holiday bonus. It would have been nice to add more cards to help finish the set, but that’s all part of the fun, isn’t it?
