As I peruse my collection, there are times where I am reminded that great players have come through the little hamlet of San Diego to play professional baseball. This is one of those times. In 2006, Topps had a very cool 25 card insert in their flagship set – the Rookie of the Week. The … Continue reading »
Well, I took part in another football break. This one courtesy of Layton Sports Cards. I haven’t participated in that many 2012 football card breaks. The reason? When I look at the checklists, most of them have very few Chargers cards – base or “hits”. But Layton Sports Cards was offering the Chargers cards from … Continue reading »
This is a nice and shiny Antonio Gates card. This particular card is a blue refractor from the 2009 Topps Chrome set. Believe me, the card is much better looking in person. There is something awesome about nice, shiny, and colorful chrome cards. Too bad we can’t chromify much else in our lives.
Here’s a little Friday mailday action for you: My second autographed card of Padres furst basseman Yonder Alonso. This is from 2012 Triple Threads. It is probably the best 2012 card of any Padre currently on the 25 man roster. Yeah, I jumped all over this when I saw it pop up on Ebay.
Yes, I am almost certain that I was the only person that was stoked when I saw these two cards pop up together on Ebay. And I’m pretty sure I am one of the few people on this planet excited to have these two cards arrive in my mailbox. That’s right boys and girls, straight … Continue reading »
I am highlighting this card because I just wanted to give a shout out to to Drew Brees. As you are probably aware, he recently set the NFL record for most consecutive games with a touchdown pass – a record that was held by the legendary Johnny Unitas since 1960. It was a little painful … Continue reading »
Here is a graded card that I have in my collection. This is Charger wide receiver Anthony Miller’s rookie card from 1989 Topps, graded Gem Mint 10 by PSA. You may be wondering why this is Anthony Miller’s rookie card since he entered the NFL in 1988. Well, back in 1988, the hobby was a … Continue reading »
I’d like to start off with an introduction. This is a card sent to me by fellow card blogger Topher. He’s the author of a card blog that I follow and highly recommend - Crackin Wax. Topher also happens to be the proprietor of a small company called Varsity Trading Cards. He recently asked me … Continue reading »
Let me start off by simply saying this. Fred McGriff is amazing. He’s got one of the coolest nicknames of all time – “the Crime Dog”. He’s got a pretty sweet mustache. He endorses Tom Emanski’s Defensive Drills videos. Plus, he’s got legitimate skills. First person since the dead ball era to lead both leagues … Continue reading »
A nice ebay pickup for my collection. This is an autographed card of Chargers #1 draft pick Melvin Ingram. It’s an on-card autograph from 2012 Topps Platinum. Unfortunately, Mr. Ingram did not participate in the 2012 NFL Rookie Premiere. So while you’ll see on-card autographs of rookies like Andrew Luck, RGIII, and Michael Floyd in … Continue reading »
