Padres Player News: Heath Bell Gets Fit With Nintendo Wii

This is probably one of the more interesting stories to come out of Padres spring training.  With talks between Trevor Hoffman and the Padres at a standstill this past winter, Heath Bell knew he might have a shot at taking over as the new closer.  So he spent the offseason in a new, albeit unique training regimen.  He didn’t hire a new personal trainer or head over to the local GNC looking for the latest workout supplement.  He played the Wii Fit with his kids.  According to the North County Times, by playing the Wii Fit Bell lost 25 lbs this offseason, reporting to camp at a much leaner 245 lbs (he was 270 lbs at the end of the 2008 season).

If Bell happens to have a monster season, saving 40+ games for the Padres, baseball may find the solution for players taking performance enhancing drugs.   The Nintendo Wii Fit.  The legal and fun way to get ballplayers in shape.
