Pack Break: 3 Packs of 2008 Goudey (Hobby) and 1 Pack of 2007 Bowman Heritage (Retail)
I stopped by the Walmart and threw in a pack of 2007 Bowman Heritage, just because it felt good. Then I decided to stop by the hobby shop and the packs of Goudey seemed to be calling out to me. Naturally I grabbed three. I am enamored with both sets – I love the retro designs. Each pack of Goudey had 8 cards and cost me $5.50 a pack. The Bowman Heritage also had 8 cards, but being a retail pack, only cost me $2.97.
Goudey Pack#1:
- First card out of the pack goes straight to my personal collection – a Jake Peavy base card.
- #35, Cubs pitcher Rich Hill.
- #102, Hall of Famer Eddie Mathews
- A Vince Coleman Autographed card. A very good signature too, right on the card (not on one of those dumb stickers).
- #15, Mariners pitcher Erik Bedard.
- A Yankee Stadium Legacy insert #2298, Yogi Berra.
- #108, Corey Hart of the Brew Crew.
- #145, Phillies legend Richie Ashburn. Not a bad pack at all. Got a card for my PC, picked up an Autograph, and an insert. It’s like bowling a turkey!!
Goudey Pack#2:
- #128, Yankee hero (and Red Sox nemesis) Bucky Dent.
- #71, A Gary Sheffield mini-card.
- #76, Dan Uggla, this year’s American League All-Star MVP.
- #24, Red Sox ace Josh Beckett.
- #191, Frank Thomas. I’m still not used to seeing him in anything but a White Sox uniform.
- #139, Oakland A’s DH (and former Padre farmhand) Jack Cust.
- #9, Braves rightfielder Jeff Francoeur.
- #246, U.S. President William H. Taft. I have no reason why Upper Deck decided to put these presidential cards into this set.
Goudey Pack#3:
- #42, Paul Konerko of the White Sox.
- #94, Angels outfielder Torii Hunter.
- #146, Newly acquired Red Sox outfielder Jason Bay. Am I the only one who thinks that his righthanded bat will thrive at Fenway?
- #198, Washington Nationals closer Chad Cordero.
- #83, Hunter Pence, last year’s rookie phenom.
- #135, Dennis Eckersley. His secret? It’s gotta be the hair, Cotton – feathered and lethal.
- #187 Marlon Byrd.
- #5 Chris Young. Unfortunately for me, not the 6′10″ Padres pitcher. The guy in Arizona.
Bowman Heritage pack:
- A pair of rookie cards. Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Joba Chamberlain.

- A pair of prospect cards. Woods Fines (wow, two last names), a pitcher in the Rays organization. Also, Fernando Martinez, a young Mets prospect. I’m planning on sending these out for autographs.

- Base cards of Orlando Hudson(#44), Carlos Lee(#144), and Chase Utley(#193).
- A Jeff Baker Chrome Rookie card. All in all, not too bad for a retail pack.
Well, there you have it. I really can’t complain with the results. Everything except for the Peavy card and the Bowman Heritage Prospects cards are available for trade. As always, let me know if you see something you like.
