My shopping spree has picked up in earnest.  Today I got nine more cards in the mail, which was a nice respite from a very long day at work.

First up, a 2008 Playoff Absolute Memorabilia card autographed by Chargers running back Jacob Hester.  I was kind of disappointed in his overrall production this season.  After trading away the 2009 2nd round pick, I expected a bit more from Hester.  Yes he showed some flashes catching the ball out of the backfield, but he didn’t quite cut it as a backup to Tomlinson.  I’m still expecting some more development in his second season.

Here is Darren Sproles’ rookie Topps Finest card.  What a year the little man had!  I’m thankful the Chargers franchised him.  While he may never be an every-down running back, he is very valuable as both a backup running back and as a special teams returner.  He even looks small in his own card!

Another pair of Antoine Cason autographed cards.  I think that eventually, he will be the one to take over Quentin Jammer’s role as the Charger’s top cornerback.  He did a great job in his first year as the nickelback, and hopefully he continues to get better.

Here is a 2008 Bowman Chrome Autographed card featuring Matt Latos.  Out of all the Padre’s pitching prospects, he’s the one causing the most excitement. This is mainly due the fact that he probably has the best fastball in the organization.  He’s currently in Arizona, getting some valuable time with the big club.  I would be amazed if he were able to make the leap from single-A to the majors right away.  If he shows some promise this year, he might get a chance at a September call up.

Another Bowman Chrome autographed card, this one featuring Padres prospect Cory Luebke.  I don’t know much about him, other than he’s a lefthander who will probably start the season in Ft. Wayne.

Here is Khalil Green’s 2003 Topps Traded “Signature Moves” Autographed card.  Why do I get the feeling that he will rebound nicely in St’ Louis?  Yes, I know he drove Padres fans crazy with his inability to lay off the 0-2 slider in the dirt.  But I really think that more than anyone, he was psyched out by the Petco factor.  A move to Busch Stadium and the reduced expectations might serve hime well.

Here is a 2008 Upper Deck Timeline card featuring Trevor Hoffman and a jersey swatch.  I am vowing not to watch any Brewers games this season (at least in the 9th inning).  The thought of Hell’s Bells being played with the alcoholic Bernie Brewer diving frantically into a vat of Miller Urine and all those sausages running around makes me want to jab a rusted spoon into my eye socket.

Another jersey swatch card, this one a 2008 Topps card featuring Jake Peavy.  So far, despite all the trade runors, Jake’s saying all the right things regarding the Padres.  Hopefully with him and a healthy Chris Young, the Padres might actually surprise some teams this year.  I know, probably just wishful thinking on my part.
