Luis Castillo Signs Contract Extension With Chargers

For Charger fans, great news from Chargers Park today. DE Luis Castillo signed a 5 year contract extension. Despite missing some time the past couple of years because of ankle problems, he has been able to put up great numbers. In the 3-4 defense the Chargers utilize, the Defensive Ends are primarily run stuffers. Their job is to clog up blockers so that linebackers like Shawne Merriman & Shaun Philips are able to make plays. But Castillo has proven himself as more than just a run stuffer, sacking the quarterback 13 times in his 34 games. A great signing by the Bolts!!

I’m a big fan of Luis Castillo and one of the reasons is that he provided me my greatest thrill as an autograph collector. After the Chargers-Redskins game in 2006, I sent him a letter with his 2005 Topps Total Rookie card. Not only did he sign the card, but he included a note with it that said, “Anthony, I truly appreciate you taking the time to remind me why I love this game so much.” As a fan, it doesn’t get any better than that.
