Kouzmanoff Breaks Record Held By Gene Tenace

Congratulations to Padres 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff for setting a new Padres team record.  He was hit by a pitch for the 14th time this season.  This broke the old Padre season record established way back in 1977 by Gene Tenace.  For those of you too young to remember Tenace, he was immortalized in a quote from the comedy Anchorman by Champ Kind (played by David Koechner).  “Gene Tenace at the plate….WHAMMY!!”

By the way, Kouzmanoff has a long way to go in the final games if he wants to break the Major League season record.  That honor goes to Hughie Jennings who set the record of 51 back in 1896 for the Baltimore Orioles.  The modern record belongs to Ron Hunt who was hit 50 times in the 1971 season while playing for the Montreal Expos.
