I love Ebay. In case you haven’t noticed, most of the cards in my collection come from Ebay auctions. I love that I can get a 50 card lot of assorted Padres cards. It’s like buying a few packs but knowing that I’m scoring all “hits”. Sure I end up with a lot of duplicates, but as a Padre collector, I’d rather get multiple copies of a Jake Peavy card than say, a Tim Lincecum (sorry Ginats fans).

I recently received a 50 card lot of Padre cards from “The Bay” (ElectricFriar slang for Ebay). Pretty nice mix of players and years. Too many to scan all the cards, so here are a few of my favorites:

I miss Phil Nevin. I know he was a love him or hate him kind of guy. You either thought he was a fiery competitor or you thought he had anger management issues. I leaned towards “fiery competitor”. Ever since he left, I think that’s what this clubhouse was missing. Peavy is probably the only Padre that shows any sort of competitive spirit. However, he only plays every 5th day and you’d prefer that your pitchers stay on a more even keel. I’d like to see that someone else on this roster show that they absolutely HATE losing. Phil was that kind of man.

Love this pic. While balancing on one knee, Wiki is trying to tag out the runner. Apparently the runner prefers high stepping onto home plate versus the traditional slide.

Pros: It’s an Allen & Ginter Padres card!!

Cons: It’s Jim Edmonds. Really, he epitomized the Padres 2008 season.

You almost forget that the game’s most prolofic basestealer played with the Friars.

Craig Lefferts had one of the best ’staches in Padres history. It rivals Bruce Bochy’s.

Is it me or does Scott Coolbaugh’s batting stance seem very awkward? Sidenote: What team are the Padres playing? Check out the background. I cannot figure this out. Green jerseys? Purple hats?

I thought he was retired so I was surprised to see Ruben Rivera playing for Panama in the WBC. And yes, in the game I saw, he swung and missed at a chest high fastball. Some things just never change.

Remember when Ben Davis was the best high school catcher since Dale Murphy? Ah well, still love him for his bunt that ruined Curt Schilling’s perfect game.

It always mystified me that Mr. Templeton spelled his first name with two r’s.

The “glamour shots” style with the background of downtown San Diego is cheesy, but it dig it. I always thought this was a perfect set for TTM autographs.

Sweet artist’s rendering of Robbie Alomar making the double play throw to first. And if I’m not mistaken, I believe that Mr. Alomar left his mustache in San Diego. I think he went sans mustache for the remainder of his playing career.
