Remember back in 2004 when Padre fans naively thought that we were set for the next 15 years at SS and 3B? It was a euphoric period for the Padres. They were in the midst of moving into their new downtown ballpark and they had a nucleus of solid young talent – Burroughs and Greene included. Alas, it wasn’t to be. Sean Burroughs never developed into the power hitter he was projected to be and has vanished from the majors. And while Khalil Greene showed promise in his rookie season, he never became the hitter we dreamed of and was shipped to St. Louis where he is still struggling to lay off chest high fastballs and breaking balls down and away.
I had high hopes that this card would be one of the pillars of my collection. It was one of the first cards I purchased when I restarted my passion for the hobby. With Gwynn retired and Hoffman getting older, I needed some fresh new players who would become the face of the franchise and my collection.
Sigh…

I really did think that Khalil would bounce back after getting out of Petco’s confines…Boy was I wrong.
