Here is one of San Diego Padres pitcher Tim Stauffer’s first autographed cards. This particular card is from the 2004 Bowman’s Best set. Stauffer was the 4th overall pick in the 2003 June Amateur Draft, from the University of Richmond. When he signed with the Padres, Stauffer accepted a smaller signing bonus after disclosing to the club that he had a shoulder ailment following the 2003 season.
Stauffer was penciled in as the Padres ace this season after the departure of Mat Latos. However, he started the 2012 season on the disabled list after an injury this spring. He recently had a solid rehab start in Lake Elsinore, pitching 7 shutout innings with 5 strikeouts while giving up only two hits. He is on track to come off the disabled list on Monday when he is scheduled to start against the Washington Nationals. The timing couldn’t be more perfect, as the Padres have recently lost pitchers Cory Luebke and Joe Wieland to injuries.
