Here’s a ten year old card featuring the Padres first Hall of Famer, the great Dave Winfield. It’s a mini parallel card from 2002 Topps T206. This set was one of Topps’ first forays into the vintage card market.
Besides featuring Dave Winfield, this card is great because that is an awesome uniform. Padres should wear brown. Who cares what the national media says. It’s not like they pay attention to the Padres anyway. The color brown is part of the teams identity. If you see someone wearing a brown baseball jersey, you know right away it’s a Padres jersey.
The good news is we have a new owner. At least, that’s the word on the street. Wouldn’t it be great if the owner made the switch to brown, focus groups be damned? Hell, Tony Gwynn agrees. And that carries a lot of significance. In San Diego, he’s kind of important. People know him.
