1994 Pinnacle Museum Collection #80 Phil PlantierPhil Plantier spent 8 years in the Majors, including 3 separate stints with the Padres.  His best season came in 1993 when he hit 34 HR’s and 100 RBI’s.  Yes, that’s the infamous Fire Sale year, when the club traded Fred McGriff and Gary Sheffield away.

I always remembered Phil Plantier for his highly unorthodox batting stance.  That and the fact that he was an all or nothing type hitter, as evidenced by his .243 career batting average.  However, as the old saying goes, “those that can’t, teach”.  Which probably explains why he has the unenviable task of teaching the home team that it’s ok to get base hits at Petco Park.

The 1994 Pinnacle Museum Collection is, in my humble opinion, one of the best parallel sets of the 90′s.  It featured Dufex technology, giving the cards a cool “foil” look. Unfortunately, when Pinnacle went out of business, we stopped seeing cards printed with Dufex.
