A new year brings new opportunities for collecting. For the past couple of years, I really haven’t been collecting as much as I would like. But one of my goals for the new year is to make more of an effort to get back into the hobby – despite the fact that at times, I may be challenged to find time. Therefore, I decided I should come up with a list of goals for the year. That way, I can channel my energy towards completing these goals instead of just haphazardly collecting cards without any real focus.
GOAL #1: Work on my team set collection
One of the favorite parts of my collection is my various Padres and Chargers team sets. I like to collect all of the Padres and Chargers base cards from most of the major sets that come out each year – Topps, Upper Deck, Topps Heritage, Bowman, etc. However, I do not have any Padres or Chargers team sets after 2008. Has it really been that long? Well, its official. My first goal is to get my team sets back up to par, hopefully all the way through the 2011 season.
GOAL#2: Continue working on my SGC Graded 1961 Fleer Chargers Team Set
A set that I have been trying to complete is the 1961 Fleer Chargers Team Set. I want to collect all 11 cards – except they have to be graded and slabbed by SGC. Why??? Aesthetics. Anyhow, I’ve got 5 cards and need 6 more. It’s pretty rare to find one available, especially in a decent grade. I haven’t really been looking for the missing cards in a few years, so I’d like to spend 2012 trying to add at least 2 cards to the set.
GOAL#3: Beef up my Antonio Gates collection
I really don’t have that many cards of Antonio Gates. Which is pretty sad. All he’s done since he joined the team in 2003 is mount a serious challenge to Kellen Winslow as the greatest TE in team history. Need more cards of Antonio.
GOAL#4: Update the Tradelist
I have a tradelist on this site. It’s true. I just haven’t updated it in a long time. And I’ve picked up a few cards that could be decent trade bait. I always tell myself to update the tradelist, but I never get around to it. 2012 sounds like a good year to do it.
Well, those are my four main goals f the year. Oh, I’ll still continue piling up as many Chargers and Padres cards that I can find (and afford). But, for this year at least, I will make a concerted effort to work on these goals. And if anyone out there can help me out, I’d really appreciate it.
